Sunday River Maine February 2026 Ski Trip Review
February 8 to 13, 2026
Trip Included: Five night stay at the Grand Summit Hotel slopeside ski in ski out
The annual OC Sunday River Trip has come and gone. The slopes of Sunday River were alive with OC energy as 135 Out of Control members gathered for 5 days of unforgettable fun, incredible skiing and boarding, and amazing winter group adventures from February 8 through 13.
Skiers, snowboarders, and a handful of non-skiers made the drive to Maine. From first tracks on
uncut corduroy to fresh powder in the glades and woods, to groups gathering for drinks at the
igloo bar or the jacuzzi at the end of the day, the week went by quickly.
Sunday evening included those initial gatherings in rooms, bars and breweries to watch the Super
Bowl (and the commercials). Monday, after our first beautiful bluebird day on the mountain, we
gathered for our first OC meet-up where we distributed the event t-shirts and pins, which were a
big success- many thanks to Lynda’s design expertise. The new pins quoted Jeff’s famous cry
when skiing in a big group, “Shut Up and Ski!”
Tuesday evening was the Hawaiian group dinner in the banquet room at the Grand Summit. Doug
introduced new members, first-time visitors to Sunday River, OCers who came from far away
(including Buffalo, Texas, Nova Scotia, and England). Everyone received magnets and we raffled
off embroidered OC souvenir hats, thanks again to Lynda’s design talents. We sang happy 75th
birthday to Jack and we celebrated Dan and Crystal’s engagement. Chantal brought her huge
flamingo. And everyone got lei-ed. Who wouldn’t love this group??
Wednesday gave us 4” of fresh powder on the mountains and snow-globe flakes in the air. OCers
skied in groups ranging from a few to gangs of 16! We were a recognizable “family” on the
mountain, and it was easy to see that it was a family having a great vacation together. The
evening broke into groups dining in area restaurants and several batches of pot-luck dinners.
Thursday was designated as costume or onesie day. Although not everyone wore costumes, the
bold OCers who did were readily recognizable on the slopes. Everyone loved the superheroes!
And the little pink pig was recognized by other skiers, even at the end of the day. It was another
great OC ski vacation idea. Friday was a cold day with clear, blue skies. Many in the group were
checking out and driving home, while others loaded their cars and put their skis on for one last
day at Sunday River. Everyone returned home with a few sore muscles, full bellies, a sizable
number of pictures and great memories. And each one of us is looking forward to repeating this
same adventure next year!
“A person should have wings to carry them where their dreams go, but sometimes a pair of skis
makes a good substitute.” (Hans Gmoser)
