About us

Who we Are And what we do

With over 1,000 active members, the Out of Control (OC) Ski Club is one of the largest and most active ski clubs in the Northeast. Our members—whose ages range from 21 to 80 and over—are all drawn together by a common goal: to get the most out of life while playing in nature’s greatest outdoor playgrounds. Truth be told, there’s a kid in all of us. So, let’s get out and play!

Downhill and Cross-Country Day Ski Bus Trips

Day ski bus trips are perhaps one of the Club’s most popular activities. Each week during the ski season, OC members can take advantage of savings of up to 50% at some of the top-rated downhill and cross-country ski areas in upstate New York and Vermont. And because we travel in comfortable tour buses provided by Brown Coach, you can sit back and enjoy the ride for less than it would cost you to drive yourself.

Free Ski and Snowboarding Instruction

One of the most valuable benefits of becoming an OC member are the free downhill ski and snow boarding lessons that are offered on day bus trips. Our PSIA-certified instructors have the expertise to help you constantly improve your form and style, regardless of your ability level. There are no limits to the number of lessons you can take. And given that the cost of ski lessons at most ski areas for a typical 1½-hour lesson, that’s an incredible deal!

Ski Vacations

Members also have first options at all of the discounted ski trips we arrange each season to ski areas both domestic and abroad. Each year we book a number of week-long ski trips to some of the world’s most popular ski destinations in the western U.S. and Canada, as well as overseas trips throughout Europe. And for those who enjoy skiing a little closer to home, we also offer a number of extended week day and weekend trips throughout the northeast such as Stowe, Jay Peak, Sunday River, Smugglers Notch and Bolton Valley among others.

NYCDSC Membership

As a member of the OC Ski Club, you are also a member of the New York Capital District Ski Council (NYCDSC), an association of ski clubs in the greater Capital Region. Each year the Council schedules special promotional days at ski areas throughout the region. Some of the benefits include:

  • Discounted lift ticket prices are available at various resorts throughout the season. In most cases one need only show your club membership card and NYCDSC sticker when you purchase your tickets. Always check the website at nycdsc.org  before you go for special instructions.
  • Club and NYCDSC races are open to all clubs.
  • The NYCDSC sponsors family fun days and other activities such as biking, hiking, camping, golfing, etc.
  • Since the NYCDSC is also a member of the National Ski Council Federation (NSCF), our club members are also entitled to take advantage of all the benefits offered by the NSCF. These include all kinds of discounts on products and services such as equipment, ski travel and resorts, car rentals and many others. Check out these benefits at   https://skifereration.org .

Social and Off-Season Activities

Some of us would ski all year ‘round if we could, but let’s face it, even though sometimes it feels like it, we don’t live at the North Pole. But the fun doesn’t have to stop with winter’s end! Once the snow melts, we get still together for other sports and outdoor activities including volleyball, golf, water sports, hiking and biking, as well as a host of other organized and informal social events throughout the year. For more information, see the Upcoming Events or subscribe to one of our newsletters to stay up to date on what’s going on.
