Know Your Ability Level

Understanding your skiing ability level is key to getting the most out of your ski instruction experience. Use the descriptions below to communicate to your instructor what your current ability level is, as well as any new skills you would like to master.

Novice

  • First time on skis (also known as “Never Ever”). Please ask for information on your lesson options.
  • Skied once or twice. Can link basic turns on beginner slope. Can ride the lift.
  • Skis with good basic turns on easiest (green) trails.

Intermediate

  • Skier is beginning to make turns that may start with a wedge and finish with matched skis (wedge christie turns). Will venture onto easier intermediate (blue) trails.
  • Skier makes consistent turns on intermediate trails (skis are matching in the fall line). Will venture onto easier black diamond trails. Speed control is an issue.
  • Skier makes open stance parallel turns on easier terrain and most blue runs. May use a small wedge christie on more challenging terrain. Speed control is sometimes an issue.

Advanced

  • Skier makes dynamic parallel turns on blue and less challenging, groomed black diamond terrain. Will try most terrain on the mountain.
  • Skis short and long dynamic parallel turns on most terrain. Skis bump trails in control.
